For the third year running, Lymington solicitors and mediators Scottbailey have been mentioned as being amongst the best in their business when it comes to family and matrimonial law by Chambers UK, the guide used by lawyers and clients to seek out the expertise they need. They single out the firm's head of family law, Suzanne Sutherland saying she "really knows her onions"

The Chambers entry, compiled by the publication after interviewing clients and rivals, says:

'This "level-headed and constructive niche practice" has cornered the Lymington market. With all three partners collaboratively trained, the group is regularly involved in both collaborative and mediated cases. The primary focus of the outfit is on ancillary relief work, but it also works on private children matters and can provide expertise in several niche areas, including surrogacy. Suzanne Sutherland "really knows her onions." She is both a trained mediator and a collaborative lawyer.'

Head of family law at the firm, Suzanne Sutherland, said: "It is gratifying that our peers and our clients think so well of us."

Scottbailey partner Sarah Unsworth has completed her training to become a Family Mediator.

A trained mediator can help couples who have decided to separate or divorce to sort out their arrangements without being directed by the courts.

Mediation is becoming an increasingly popular way of making arrangements because it is often quicker, cheaper and more satisfactory than letting the court decide things.

06/10/2008: Legal green team to stamp on carbon footprint

ScottBailey have started a vegetable garden in the grounds of their offices at 63 High Street as part of their response to the call for business action on climate change.

They have also set up a "Green Team", comprised of partners and staff, to promote good practices to save energy and materials.

The campaign kicked off with an Eco-day when staff walked or cycled to work or shared cars if the distance was too great.

Measures they are taking include encouraging staff to email instead of using paper, review draft documents on screen, printing and copying on both sides of the paper, recycling more waste, reusing envelopes and scrap paper, using recycled products and turning off lights, printers and monitors when not in use.

Sue Sutherland, the partner leading the Green Team said "Our staff are really keen to help the environment and their morale has been boosted by our positive stance.

"The vegetable garden reminds us of the concept of food miles and sustainability. It will use less energy than shopping in a supermarket.

"We are in the process of measuring our carbon footprint and will compare it in three months time. We have commissioned an energy assessment on our offices to see where we can make ourselves more energy efficient."

12/08/2008: Bathed in glory - nearly

ScottBailey's team in the Lymington Town Sailing Club's annual bath race this year was head of family law Sue Sutherland (left) and solicitor Anna Feast. Things went very well in the garden trials and not too badly on the water. They didn't win but they certainly stayed afloat.
