STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is an internationally recognised professional body for trust and estate practitioners. It aims to ensure its members deliver the best possible service to their clients by providing training and education and setting and upholding standards for practitioners.

STEP members must demonstrate specialist expertise in all aspects of inheritance and succession planning, alongside an absolute commitment to providing the highest standard of legal support. Full STEP members are known as TEPs (Trust and Estate Practitioners).

Last month, Richard Wadsworth, our Head of Private Client, became a member of STEP, highlighting his extensive expertise and experience, alongside his continued commitment to high professional standards.

“The knowledge that I have gained through the journey to obtaining this qualification has proven to be invaluable to my day-to-day work, particularly given the ever complex nature of the work we undertake here at Scott Bailey”

Richard Wadsworth, Head of Private Client

Benefits of using a TEP

There are many advantages to using a TEP, including:

  • TEPs are required to have the relevant qualifications and experience for their role. You may be surprised to learn that many aspects of estate planning are unregulated and require no training or qualifications. When using a TEP, you can be confident that they are a qualified and experienced expert.
  • As well as having the required qualifications, TEPs must demonstrate a continued commitment to professional development. In an industry where best practice evolves, ongoing training ensures that TEPs are always up-to-date on the latest legal, technical and regulatory developments.
  • STEP’s Code of Professional Conduct ensures that TEPs adhere to the highest professional standards and operate with integrity. When you use a TEP, you can be confident they will act in your best interests.
  • TEPs are part of a network of over 21,000 like-minded advisors and professionals around the world. They can draw upon this network to provide expert advice on specialist areas or other regions or to provide services on your behalf.
