This week marks a milestone for Scott Bailey LLP as we celebrate our three new Apprentice Solicitors – Joseph Hammond, Holly Mitchell and Benjamin Bethell – starting the Solicitor Level 7 Apprenticeship programme at Bournemouth University.

Already valued members of our team, Joe, Holly and Benjamin will now combine their university studies with continued practical, hands-on experience across our departments.

This is the first time Scott Bailey has embraced the apprenticeship route – a significant step in our commitment to nurturing the next generation of lawyers and investing in professional development across the firm.

Holly Mitchell

Holly began her journey with us in November 2024 as a Legal Administrator within our Lymington and Lyndhurst property teams, led by Partner James Burford.

“I am very grateful to the team at Scott Bailey for the faith they have put in me since day one. Taking me on as a Legal Administrator during my final year of university meant that I could consolidate my conceptual and theoretical knowledge in the workplace which has been invaluable. By taking on an interactive role, I was able to see the marriage between theory and practice. This was instrumental in facilitating sound legal knowledge, and is something that I am looking forward to doing more of with this Apprenticeship.

I commuted into Winchester for university, and so am delighted to expand my education further in Bournemouth with the comforts of my local community around me. I feel truly privileged to have access to such an incredible pathway to cultivate my legal career- and feel lucky to have the support of the welcoming team at Scott Bailey to foster this.”

Benjamin Bethell

Benjamin joined Scott Bailey as a Matrimonial Legal Assistant in our Family Law department in December 2024, under the supervision of Senior Partner and Apprentice Supervisor, Sarah Unsworth.

“I’m beyond excited to begin this next step of my journey in law, which wouldn’t have been possible without the encouragement that I have received from my colleagues at Scott Bailey. From walking through the door just 10 months ago, I have learned so much and have felt so inspired to take this leap.

With the joint support of the firm, the university, and my fellow trainees, this is an incredible opportunity that I intend to make the absolute most of, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Joseph Hammond

Joe joined Scott Bailey in June 2025 as a Legal Assistant and has been working closely with the Corporate and Commercial and Marine departments, headed by Partner Ben Ironmonger.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Scott Bailey LLP for their continued support and for placing their trust in me as I begin my new role as a Solicitor Apprentice. Having originally accepted a training contract earlier this year, I’m excited to now be pursuing qualification through the apprenticeship route – an innovative path that allows me to gain practical experience while I learn and apply my studies directly to practice.

It’s a privilege to return to Bournemouth University, where I graduated this year after completing college at Barton Peveril, and to continue my journey with a firm so deeply rooted in the local community. Being part of a grounded, forward-thinking team like Scott Bailey – right here in the New Forest – is something I’m truly proud of.”
