Veterinary regulatory and compliance advice

Veterinary practices operate in a highly regulated environment where requirements can vary depending on the services they provide. A practice treating pets may face different requirements from a rural practice working with farms and livestock.

Our veterinary lawyers have extensive experience advising practices on sector-specific regulation, including the Veterinary Medicines Regulations, veterinary certification and the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct, as well as wider compliance requirements such as data protection. We provide clear, practical guidance to help you remain compliant.

Partnership, shareholder and joint venture agreements

Setting up or running a veterinary practice with other owners requires clear arrangements governing how the business will operate. Without these, disputes can arise quickly.

Our veterinary lawyers draft partnership, shareholder and joint venture agreements tailored to your practice, clearly defining responsibilities, investment, profits, decision-making processes and arrangements for future ownership changes.

Commercial contracts for veterinary practices

Veterinary practices rely on a wide range of contracts governing their relationships with clients, staff and suppliers. Unclear or unsuitable terms can leave your practice exposed to disputes, financial loss and disruption.

Our veterinary lawyers draft and review commercial contracts tailored to your practice, ensuring responsibilities are clearly defined, risks are appropriately managed and your wider commercial interests are protected.

Outsourcing agreements for veterinary practices

Outsourcing services can help your veterinary practice operate more efficiently, but unclear arrangements may expose you to poor service, unexpected costs and compliance risks.

Our veterinary lawyers draft outsourcing agreements tailored to your practice, clearly defining service standards, responsibilities, pricing, data protection, liability and termination arrangements to protect your interests throughout the relationship.

Franchise, agency and distribution agreements

Veterinary practices may rely on agency arrangements for staffing, distribution agreements for pet food or equipment, or franchising to support growth. Poorly drafted terms can create uncertainty over payments, responsibilities, liability and termination.

Our veterinary lawyers draft and review agreements tailored to your practice, helping you manage risk, protect your commercial interests and establish clear, workable relationships.

Independent legal advice for veterinary practices

Veterinary practice owners may be required to obtain independent legal advice before signing certain business documents, including personal guarantees used to secure a loan, lease or credit arrangement.

Our experienced business lawyers review the documents and clearly explain your obligations, risks and potential liabilities, helping you understand your personal exposure and make an informed decision with confidence.
